As we build our new post home in Hampstead, we are creating a Walk of Remembrance — an engraved brick walkway to honor the veterans, families, and friends who shaped our community.

Dedicate a brick in honor or in memory of a veteran, loved one, or fellow Legion member. Your brick will be permanently placed in the walkway at Post 167 for generations to see.

From a small group of dedicated veterans to a thriving post serving all eras of service members, the story of Post 167 is woven into the history of Hampstead itself.

Post 167 Founded
A group of dedicated veterans established Post 167 in Hampstead under the American Legion charter, creating a permanent home for veterans and their families in Pender County.
1991
Desert Storm Support
Post 167 launched community care packages and family support networks for deployed Pender County service members during Operation Desert Storm.
2001 – Present
Global War on Terror
As Hampstead grew with Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River families nearby, Post 167 expanded veteran services and support programs for OEF/OIF veterans.
Today
Still Serving Strong
Post 167 continues to grow, serving veterans of all eras, their families, and the broader Hampstead and Pender County community with pride.

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Post 167 upholds the Legion's four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth.

In Hampstead, we are neighbors first — veterans who served and came home to build this community alongside you.

About Us

Who We Are

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 167 is a vital part of the Post 167 family here in Hampstead, NC. Our unit is made up of the mothers, wives, daughters, granddaughters, sisters, and other relatives of veterans who have served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The American Legion Auxiliary is the world's largest women's patriotic service organization. Unit 167 carries that proud tradition right here in Pender County.

Our Programs

Poppy Program

Each year we distribute poppies in honor of fallen veterans. Proceeds support veterans' welfare and community programs in Pender County.

Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation

We visit and support veterans in VA hospitals and care facilities, providing comfort, companionship, and advocacy.

Scholarships & Education

The Auxiliary awards scholarships to deserving students, investing in the next generation of leaders in Hampstead.

Girls State

We sponsor young women from our community to attend Girls State — a premier civic education and leadership program.

Children & Youth

Supporting military children and youth through programs that recognize their unique contributions and sacrifices.

"Be The One" Initiative

Supporting the American Legion's veteran suicide prevention initiative — every veteran life matters.

Become a Member

Membership is open to the mothers, wives, daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, sisters, grandsons, great-grandsons, and sons of American Legion members or of veterans who served honorably.

Eligibility Requirements

Membership in The American Legion Auxiliary shall be limited to the:

  • Grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion.
  • Grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of veterans who served during WWI (April 6, 1917 – November 11, 1918) or any time after December 7, 1941, and died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge.
  • Grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of men and women who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces during either eligibility period and died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge.
  • Women who are eligible for membership in The American Legion in their own right — regardless of whether they have joined The American Legion.

Join Post 167

Membership in the American Legion is open to those who honorably served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Join a brotherhood and sisterhood of over 2 million veterans.

Eligibility Requirements

Honorable Service

You must have served at least one day of federal active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and received an honorable discharge — or be currently serving honorably.

Any Branch

Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force — all branches welcome.

All Eras Welcome

From WWII to the Global War on Terror, veterans of all conflicts may be eligible.

Annual Dues

Affordable annual dues go toward supporting veterans programs, scholarships, and community service.
